Schneider Electric is emerging as one of Europe’s strongest “picks-and-shovels” investments in artificial intelligence. Its power-management, cooling and automation technologies are essential to modern data centres—but after the stock’s recent rally, much of that growth is already reflected in its valuation.
Artificial intelligence is generally associated with semiconductor companies such as Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom. Yet training and operating increasingly powerful AI models requires far more than advanced processors.
Every AI data centre needs enormous quantities of electricity. That power must be distributed, converted, protected, monitored and cooled continuously. This physical infrastructure has turned Schneider Electric into one of the most important—and profitable—European beneficiaries of the AI investment cycle.
The French group’s latest results confirmed the strength of that position. Schneider Electric reported record first-half sales, exceeded profit expectations and raised its guidance for 2026 as demand from large cloud-computing companies continued to accelerate.
Its shares consequently jumped more than 10% following the announcement and traded near a record high of €290 on July 31.
The operational performance is impressive. The more difficult question for investors is whether Schneider Electric’s growth prospects still justify a valuation of approximately 35 times trailing earnings.
Schneider Electric is selling the infrastructure behind AI
Schneider Electric does not manufacture GPUs or develop generative-AI models. Instead, it supplies the equipment required to operate data centres safely and efficiently.
Its portfolio includes:
- Low- and medium-voltage electrical equipment
- Power-distribution systems
- Circuit breakers and switchgear
- Uninterruptible power supplies
- Server racks and enclosures
- Data-centre monitoring software
- Building and energy-management systems
- Industrial automation
- Conventional and liquid-cooling technology
- Microgrid and renewable-energy integration
This makes Schneider Electric a classic “picks-and-shovels” investment.
The company can benefit regardless of which semiconductor manufacturer, cloud platform or AI model ultimately becomes dominant. Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta and other hyperscalers all require electrical infrastructure when constructing new computing capacity.
The increasingly power-intensive nature of AI strengthens this position. Advanced processors produce substantially more heat and consume more electricity than conventional enterprise servers. Data-centre operators therefore need to upgrade both power distribution and cooling systems.
Schneider Electric supplies products across this entire chain.
Record second-quarter revenue
Schneider Electric reported second-quarter revenue of €11.46 billion, representing organic growth of 17% and a new quarterly record.
Energy Management revenue increased organically by 18%, while Industrial Automation accelerated by 11%.
Growth was particularly strong in North America, where revenue advanced organically by 23%. China and East Asia recorded approximately 20% organic growth during the quarter.
For the first six months of 2026, Schneider Electric generated revenue of €21.23 billion, compared with €19.34 billion during the same period in 2025.
Net income increased from €1.91 billion to €2.49 billion, while adjusted EBITA reached €4.09 billion. Analysts had expected approximately €3.8 billion.
Basic earnings per share from continuing operations increased from €3.41 to €4.42.
These results demonstrated that Schneider’s growth is not limited to order announcements. Data-centre demand is now producing visible revenue, profit and margin expansion.
The company described its first-half performance as a record for revenue, adjusted EBITA margin and free cash flow.
Schneider raises its 2026 guidance
Management responded to the stronger performance by increasing its full-year objectives.
Schneider Electric now expects:
- Organic revenue growth of 10% to 13%
- Adjusted organic EBITA growth of 14% to 19%
- Adjusted EBITA margin expansion of 70 to 100 basis points
The previous forecast called for revenue growth of 7% to 10%, adjusted EBITA growth of 10% to 15% and margin expansion of 50 to 80 basis points.
The upgrade is important because it suggests that increasing demand is being accompanied by operating leverage. Schneider is not simply selling more equipment—it is converting that growth into faster profit expansion.
The company’s medium-term ambitions are also substantial. At its December 2025 Capital Markets Day, Schneider extended its target of 7% to 10% annual organic revenue growth through 2030.
That objective is supported by several structural trends beyond artificial intelligence, including electrification, grid modernisation, industrial automation and energy efficiency.
Why data centres represent an unusually attractive market
Data centres accounted for approximately 30% of Schneider Electric’s order exposure in 2025, making the sector one of the company’s largest end markets.
Management expects the data-centre and network market to grow by more than 10% annually over the following five years.
Several developments support that forecast.
Hyperscaler spending continues to increase
Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet, Meta and other technology groups are spending hundreds of billions of dollars on computing infrastructure.
Many investors have become concerned that this expenditure could eventually exceed the cash generated by the companies’ cloud businesses. However, Amazon’s latest results provided fresh evidence that demand remains strong: Amazon Web Services reported 37% revenue growth in the second quarter of 2026.
Schneider benefits whenever these companies construct additional capacity, even if the ultimate profitability of individual AI models remains uncertain.
AI servers require more electricity
High-density AI racks can consume significantly more power than traditional servers. This requires more advanced switchgear, power-distribution equipment and backup systems.
Electricity availability has already become one of the principal constraints on new data-centre development. Schneider’s expertise in energy management therefore makes it more strategically important to customers.
Cooling technology is becoming critical
Traditional air cooling becomes less effective as processors become hotter and computing racks become denser.
Liquid cooling brings coolant closer to the processors and can remove heat more efficiently. Schneider strengthened its position in this market through its acquisition of U.S. liquid-cooling specialist Motivair in 2025.
The combination of electrical equipment and cooling technology gives Schneider the ability to supply a larger share of each data-centre project.
Operators need to improve energy efficiency
Data-centre customers face growing pressure to reduce electricity consumption and carbon emissions.
Schneider’s EcoStruxure platform connects electrical, cooling and building-management equipment, giving operators greater visibility over their energy usage.
Software and monitoring services also help Schneider build longer relationships with customers after the initial installation.
A broader electrification opportunity
Although data centres receive most of the attention, Schneider Electric is not exclusively an AI company.
Its products are used in factories, hospitals, commercial buildings, homes, utilities and public infrastructure. This diversification gives the group exposure to several long-term investment themes:
- Replacement of fossil-fuel systems with electrical technologies
- Expansion and modernisation of electricity grids
- Factory automation
- Smart buildings
- Renewable-energy integration
- Electric-vehicle charging
- Energy-security investment
- Industrial digitalisation
The recovery of industrial automation is particularly encouraging. Organic growth in the division accelerated to 11% during the second quarter, suggesting that Schneider is benefiting from more than a single end market.
A broader recovery in European construction and industrial activity could provide another source of growth, although conditions remain uneven.
Schneider’s competitive advantages
Schneider Electric’s position is supported by several competitive strengths.
A comprehensive product portfolio
Data-centre operators frequently prefer suppliers that can provide integrated power, cooling, automation and monitoring systems.
Schneider’s ability to combine hardware and software reduces the complexity of large projects and makes it more difficult for smaller competitors to replace the company.
Global reach
Schneider operates in more than 100 countries and can support cloud customers as they build data centres in North America, Europe and Asia.
North America remains its most important data-centre market, but demand is growing in Southeast Asia and other regions where cloud infrastructure is expanding.
Long customer relationships
Electrical infrastructure must operate reliably for many years. Customers consequently place considerable importance on safety, service capabilities and an established track record.
Once Schneider equipment has been installed, maintenance, upgrades and future capacity additions can produce recurring business.
Scale and supply-chain capabilities
Large data-centre projects require substantial quantities of specialised equipment delivered according to precise construction schedules.
Schneider’s manufacturing footprint and purchasing power give it an advantage over smaller competitors, particularly when components are scarce.
The valuation is the principal concern
Schneider Electric’s operational quality is no longer a secret.
At approximately €290 per share on July 31, the company had a market capitalisation close to €161 billion. The stock traded at roughly 35 times trailing earnings, while its dividend yield was only around 1.45%.
That is a demanding valuation for an industrial company.
It reflects expectations that Schneider will continue producing double-digit revenue growth, expanding margins and maintaining its leading position in data-centre infrastructure.
The average analyst price target was approximately €314, according to data compiled by Investing.com. That implied potential appreciation of only about 8% from the July 31 price, although individual analyst targets varied considerably.
Morningstar maintained a fair-value estimate of €250 earlier in 2026, before the latest results and guidance upgrade. Although that estimate may eventually be revised, it demonstrates that analysts can reach very different conclusions about an appropriate valuation.
Schneider’s multiple means that even a good set of results may not always be enough. Future earnings must continue exceeding expectations to support the share price.
The bull case
The positive investment thesis rests on five main arguments:
- AI infrastructure spending remains exceptionally strong.
Hyperscalers continue investing in data centres despite concerns about free cash flow. - Schneider sells mission-critical equipment.
Electrical and cooling infrastructure represents a relatively small share of total project costs but is essential for reliable operation. - Demand extends beyond AI.
Electrification, automation, grids and energy efficiency provide additional growth drivers. - Profit is growing faster than revenue.
The upgraded EBITA forecast indicates improving margins and operating leverage. - Schneider has a diversified customer base.
The company does not depend on the success of a single chipmaker, cloud provider or AI model.
If management achieves its organic growth targets through 2030 and continues expanding margins, current earnings estimates could prove too conservative.
The bear case
The principal risks are equally clear.
A slowdown in AI capital expenditure
The largest cloud groups are committing unprecedented sums to data centres. If AI revenues fail to justify that spending, projects could be postponed or cancelled.
Schneider would probably continue benefiting from electrification and automation, but its growth rate could slow significantly.
Customer and sector concentration
Data centres now represent a substantial share of Schneider’s orders. This increases the company’s sensitivity to decisions made by a relatively small number of hyperscale customers.
High valuation
A company trading around 35 times earnings has little room for disappointment. Even temporary order delays, weaker margins or cautious guidance could produce a sharp correction.
Competition
Schneider faces strong competitors including Eaton, ABB, Siemens, Legrand and Vertiv.
Some competitors have more concentrated exposure to high-growth data-centre products, while others may compete aggressively on pricing.
Currency effects
Schneider expects foreign-exchange movements to reduce reported 2026 revenue by approximately €400 million to €500 million, mainly because of the weaker U.S. dollar and Indian rupee.
Currency changes do not necessarily affect underlying demand, but they can reduce reported revenue and earnings for euro-based shareholders.
Regional and supply-chain risks
Industrial markets remain subdued in parts of China and the United States. Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East could also affect supply chains and project execution.
What investors should monitor
Future Schneider Electric results should be assessed through several indicators:

- Progress in liquid cooling

Final assessment: an excellent business at a demanding price
Schneider Electric has become one of Europe’s clearest beneficiaries of the AI data-centre boom.
Its latest results support the fundamental investment thesis: demand is accelerating, revenue is reaching new records, margins are expanding and management has raised its 2026 targets.
Unlike many speculative AI companies, Schneider sells physical equipment that customers already need and pay for. Its exposure also extends beyond artificial intelligence to electrification, grids, automation and energy efficiency.
The principal issue is valuation.
At close to €290 and approximately 35 times trailing earnings, Schneider Electric can no longer be considered an undiscovered AI opportunity. Investors are paying a premium for its market position, execution and growth prospects.
The stock may continue outperforming if data-centre investment remains strong and profit growth exceeds the upgraded targets. However, new investors should recognise that the current price already assumes a highly favourable scenario.
Schneider Electric therefore appears to be one of Europe’s highest-quality AI infrastructure companies—but not necessarily one of its cheapest stocks.
